Have you ever wondered what it might be like to dive down past 30mtrs on a reef, or to visit a wreck that lies at 38 mtrs? Perhaps you just want to explore the deeper areas of your local inland site? Then join us for a training experience you will not forget, with the ‘PADI Deep Diver Specialty’.
The ‘PADI Deep Diver Specialty’ is an introduction to deep diving, and helps you develop the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to safely participate in deep diving activities.
Once certified, you will be able to undertake dives down to 40mtrs, in conditions similar to/ or better than those you were trained in.
Course Details
- The maximum number of students on each course is 3
- Each course is led by an Instructor, with an additional safety diver and surface support
- You will need to undertake the independent study of the Deep Diver Manual, bringing the completed knowledge reviews with you
- There are 4 open water training dives, split equally between 2 days
- Cost of the course is £225.00 inclusive
Before Starting The Course
- You must be certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver or above
- You must be aged 15 years or older
- Please read and understand the medical questionnaire
- If you would like to use your own equipment then please check this against the minimum equipment required for this course.
Course overview
Within this course we are going to look at:
- planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of deep diving
- risk factors and decompression tables review
- safety stops and emergency decompression procedures
- special equipment, descent lines and buoyancy control considerations
- procedures for flying after diving and high altitude diving
- orientation to recompression chambers
Knowledge Development
Before starting the open water training, there are two elements of knowledge development to undertake:
- Pre-assessment quiz. A simple 10 question quiz to gauge your knowledge of the Recreational Dive Planner. (download this quiz now!)
- Deep Diver Manual. Supplied with the course, there are 2 knowledge reviews to complete (very similar to the Open Water Manual).
Open Water Training
Our preferred training location for this course is Vobster Quay or NDAC Chepstow.
Training Dive One – Depth Range 20 to 30 mtrs
With our equipment on, and pre dive safety check carried out, we enter the water and start our descent down the reference line, to the task area. Here we perform an easy exercise to highlight how various colours are affected at depth. A torch is shone onto a colour card, which brings the colours back, and then removed so you can see which colours disappear!
No stop time, and gas allowing, we then finish the dive with an underwater tour, followed by an ascent back up the reference line and a 3 minute safety stop.
Training Dive Two – Depth Range 18 to 25 mtrs
With our equipment on, and pre dive safety check carried out, we enter the water and descend this time by using the reference line as a visual reference only (so good buoyancy control needed!). Once at the task area we take a look at how the depth affects pressure sensitive objects, such as a tennis ball, empty plastic bottle etc. Finally we perform a simple navigation exercise, similar to what you carried out in the Advanced Open Water course.
No stop time, and gas allowing, we then finish the dive with an underwater tour, followed by an ascent back up the reference line and a 3 minute safety stop.
Training Dive Three – Depth Range 30 to 40 mtrs
With our equipment on, and pre dive safety check carried out, we enter the water and descend by holding onto the reference line, to the task area. Here we perform a timed task (a task we have already carried out on the surface), to see what affects nitrogen narcosis has on your mental processes.
We then ascend back up the reference line, and complete an 8 minute simulated emergency decompression stop breathing from an emergency air source.
Training Dive Four – Depth Range 20 to 30 mtrs
This dive is just for fun.
With our equipment on, and pre dive safety check carried out, we enter the water and start descending down using the reference line as a visual guide only. The objective is to complete an underwater tour, so we’ll fin around and enjoy ourselves, and take in the sights of the various wrecks and features that the inland site has to offer.
At the end of this dive we ascend back up the reference line and make a 3 minute safety stop.
Course Fee Includes
- Deep Diver Crew Pack – includes Manual, DVD, Diploma & Chevron
